I’m Shahadat Hossain, a Professor in the Department of Finance at the University of Chittagong. I earned my PhD in Economics (Financial Economics) from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, where I also completed my M.Sc. in Economics and Finance, and I hold an MBA in Finance and Banking and a BBA from the University of Chittagong.

Beyond finance, I have a deep interest in how societies are shaped — how the voices of the majority are often marginalised while the interests of a few are imposed, and how a partial picture, deliberately chosen, is presented as though it were the whole.

This blog is a space where I step outside the formal boundaries of academic writing to think through the issues shaping our world — in politics, economy, and society. My aim here is to dig deeper than the headlines: to ask why things happen, examine what the evidence actually shows, and reflect on what it means for Bangladesh and beyond. The views are my own, written for anyone — students, fellow academics, or curious readers — who wants analysis with a little more depth. You’re welcome to read, disagree, and join the conversation.
